7.2. mod_rewrite URL Schema explanation


This page explains what and how to use DFF URL Schema.

What is DFF URL schema?

URL Schema makes it possible for affiliates to control the appearance and structure of their URLs.
URL schema used in conjunction with server side mod_rewrite makes a powerful SEO tool.
Relevant keywords in addition to affiliates' own keywords can be added into the URL.
Each affiliate can have as many URL Schemas as they need.

Setting URLs within each Schema

Each schema allow affiliates to set the URL behaviour for different type of script.
Currently URL schema allow settings for Product Price Comparison only. In the near future once this concept has been understood and adapted by many affiliates we will release the other scripts' manipulation.

URL schema syntax:

http://(domain_name)/(any_keyword)-<seo_keywords>-<dff_parameters>-(any_keyword)

Example:

http://www.datafeedfile.com/compare_price-<<<seo>>>-<<<param>>>-wireless_router

Start with 'http://' + any domain name you want.

(any_keyword) = (optional) your own keywords

<seo_keywords> = (optional) contextual keywords provided automaticaly by DFF.
    This is a place holder and should be included exactly as '<<<seo>>>'.
    When this schema is used, '<<<seo>>>' will be replaced with relevant contextual keywords automaticaly by DFF.

<dff_parameters> = (required) DFF automaticaly fill this section with parameter values depending on the script involved.
    This is a place holder and should be included exactly as '<<<dffparam>>>'.
    When this schema is used, '<<<dffparam>>>' will be replaced with relevant contextual keywords automaticaly by DFF.

Having more than one URL Schema

More than one URL schema gives you more flexibility. Lets say you want to create different SEO campaigns, one to pursue 'compare_price' keywords and the second campaign to pursue 'best_deal' keywords.
You can simply create 2 URL schemas and name the first one, "compare price keywords" and the second, "best deal keywords".

On schema #1 - Product price comparison you set it to:

http://www.datafeedfile.com/compare_price-<<<seo>>>-<<<param>>>-wireless_router

on schema #2 - Product price comparison you set it to:

http://www.datafeedfile.com/best_deal-<<<seo>>>-<<<param>>>-wireless_router

As long as you have the only required <<<param<<< place holder, you can completely customize every section of the URL, you can even change the domain name to different sites.

Schema URL options

The name of your URL schemas are optional, we recommend you name each one of your schema to something meaningful for you. Schema name value is not used for any functionality.

You can skip or leave any URL you do not want to be replace / re-written BLANK / Empty.

How to use URL Schema when including scripts

Once you have created a URL Schema and filled in the specific URL for a particular script you are ready to use it within your script includes.

(as of this writting 1/18/07 DFF only have the PSE price search engine script ready to use mod_rewrite, more scripts will follow to support mod_rewrite functionality)

To use your URL Schema simple add either mr=## or dffget_mr=##. Replace the ## with your URL Schema number.

Use the mr=## when you are using Javascript script includes.
Use the dffget_mr=## when you are using PHP / ASP script includes.
To make sure you have the right script include syntax please use the GET HTML > Shopping Tools > Price Search Engine generation tool.
